Young Authors

In less than a month, I will be back to school with a new group of third grade students. One of my favorite experiences in 16 years of teaching was sharing the writing and publication process with my kids at school. Last year’s class will always be extra special to me because we experienced my life long dream of publishing a children’s book together.


The excitement was contagious, so our end of the year project was for each student to write and illustrate their own book. Writing is a huge part of the curriculum in my classroom, so it was quite natural to expand our daily writing exercises to produce these stories. After a lot of hard work, they shared their books with the class. Seeing each child’s joy as they read their work to their peers was priceless. And me...I was beaming with pride. 💛


Although I always enjoy time off in the summer to relax and rejuvenate, I am eager to write another chapter of my life with a new group of students this year. Sharing my passion for reading and writing with my kids is definitely the best part of my job. You never know when inspiration will strike. The next up and coming author may have been inspired from the writing in my class!
