Years ago when I was researching steps to becoming a published author, I stumbled upon the Verla Kay Blue Boards. These are discussion boards, originally created by children's author Verla Kay. While the boards have now merged with the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) discussion boards, the purpose remains the same--it is a place where writers and illustrators can share information. This can be anything from exchanging manuscripts with fellow writers to exploring blog topics to discovering local writing groups. There is a WEALTH of information on the boards and I could (have) spent hours reading, researching, connecting, and commenting on this site. I highly recommend all fellow writers to make this site a weekly visit. There is so much to learn from each other, and members have the added bonus of connecting with seasoned authors who have several successfully published books under their wings.
Over the last month, I have connected with five members on the boards and we created our own online critique group. Along with school starting, this is why I've been MIA from my blog! We have been busy exchanging manuscripts, commenting, revising, and sharing with each other. I have learned a lot from these ladies and truly appreciate their time and talent. Be sure to visit SCBWI, become a member, and actively engage in the discussion boards. Your future writer self will thank you!
As always, Adventures Await!
