National Read Across America Day

As teachers, we celebrate reading EVERY day, but TODAY is extra special...It's National Read Across America Day! My third grade class celebrated their accomplishment of reading 2,750 books so far this year on Epic, an enormous digital library for kids. They absolutely love the ability to choose their own books to read and have been working very hard to continue crushing goals. I am so proud of their progress in reading and love to see them celebrate their accomplishments.

Today is also Dr. Seuss' birthday! My co-worker introduced us to Wes Tank's Story Raps. We listened to his Dr. Seuss raps and showcased some crazy dance moves to his hip-hop beats. It was fun reminiscing about our favorite Dr. Seuss books that, for many, began their discovery of reading!

And lastly, I was recently asked by my friend, Racquel Frisella, to share some tips for parents to encourage their children to read. I was honored to be featured in her newsletter to share a few pointers I've gained over the last 20 years in education, along with my own parenting experiences. You can find my recommendations here in Racquel's "What I'm Lovin".
